The SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George’s County, Inc. is a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to animal welfare. We do not operate the county shelter. We are chartered by the State of Maryland, but we receive no state or county funds. Our activities are supported solely by contributions, dues, and fundraising events.
November is Adopt a Senior Dog Month
... and we have a great senior dog available for adoption!
Remember Shaun the Sheep from Wallace and Gromit? He exhibited human intelligence, creativity and overall charm, as the youngest member of the flock of sheep. That's Shaun! Of course, he's not actually a sheep—he's a remarkably quiet, yet moderately active, cairn terrier/poodle mix.
PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
Welcome Back Jenn!
Our new Fundraising Coordinator is more than familiar with SPCA/HS fundraising goals. Jenn Evoy Kratz previously served as our Fundraising & Events Coordinator before taking a break to get married, settle into a new home, and establish herself in her career at the Office of Donor Relations and Stewardship at University of Maryland. While on SPCA/HS "hiatus", Jenn continued to foster and to manage our United Way, Snyder Grant, and VolunteerMatch participation. We are thrilled to welcome her back!

Putting the "Fun" in Fundraising
Eat, drink and shop at Franklins Brewery, Restaurant and General Store anytime on November 18th, show your receipt to the hostess or cashier, and the SPCA/HS receives 20% of the sale. Franklin's is located right off of Rt. 1 in Hyattsville and has great food and unique items in their store. Fill your belly and get your holiday gifts while raising money for the SPCA/HS!
Yard Sale Success!
A big thank you to Gwyn K. and Emi A. for organizing and staffing an SPCA/HS yard sale table, part of the annual Community Wide Hyattsville Yard Sale. And thank you to everyone who donated or purchased items at the sale. They raised over $100 from sales and donations, while raising awareness of our organization.
"People were very supportive and enthusiastic about the fact that our sale was to raise funds for the animals in Prince George's County," said Emi. "We had some nice doggie customers—super cute and well behaved—that enjoyed sniffing the merchandise. One owner donated an extra collar and a leash. We had a fun day!"
At the end of the sale all, all unsold items were delivered to the Salvation Army for donation.
A Howlin' Good Time!
The SPCA/HS was well-represented at the Quiet Waters Park 12th Annual Howl-O-Ween Barkin' Bash. Our volunteers brought several foster dogs (some in costume), conducted Canine Good Citizen tests for attendees and their pets, and raffled off a basket donated by Barkley Square bakery.
The event was sponsored by the Friends of Quiet Waters Park and the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks.
