Global company Babcock lands at Darwin Airport

A new hangar housing not one but two Sikorsky S-92 helicopters – valued at $38million a piece – has opened for business at Darwin International Airport. From its new home, Babcock Offshore Services will continue important aerial operations, providing world-class offshore energy transportation helicopter services for blue-chip oil and gas companies within the Australasian region.

Located on Lancaster Road in the eastern General Aviation precinct, Babcock Operations Centre was opened by Chief Minister, The Hon. Adam Giles this month, and is a welcome addition to the airport’s property portfolio.

Darwin Airport Central

Darwin’s newest inspiring urban precinct Darwin Airport Central, continues to grow with construction for projects South Osgood and Flip Out Trampoline Arena well underway. According to the property team, the current and future projects suggests an industry confidence in Darwin Airport Central.

“A fully integrated and master planned commercial hub, the precinct offers first-class commercial retail and leisure facilities, offering great appeal for investors and tenants”, said Director Property Ross Baynes.

See it, Hear it, Report it!

The Darwin Airport community is teaming up with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), authority agencies and other key organisations to help promote the See it, Hear it, Report it! Campaign. The campaign is designed to encourage all personnel working throughout the airport precinct, to report any suspicious behaviour in an effort to help prevent crime.

If you work at the airport precinct, we urge you to please add 131 AFP (237) to your phone contacts and keep your eyes open, be alert and be pro-active. It takes a community to create change.

Annual Golf Day charity announced

Celebrating a landmark 10th anniversary year, the 2016 Darwin International Airport’s Annual Charity Golf Day will support children’s charity Variety NT, a local organisation that aims to empower sick, disadvantaged or special needs children to live, laugh and learn.

Darwin International Airport is urging generous organisations to support the Golf Day and help raise the 2016 target of $40,000. Those organisations wanting to get involved can assist by entering a team, sourcing a great prize for our auction or raffle, or coming on board as a sponsor. Every dollar earned will help fund crucial modifications and upgrades to Sunshine Couches which service two Northern Territory communities, enabling a range of special needs children get to and from school and attend community events.

This year is not only DIA’s 10th year hosting the Golf Day Fundraiser, it is also Variety NT’s 25th anniversary, and so we’re expecting it to be bigger and better than ever before!

The Golf Day will take place on Friday 12 August 2016. Please contact Jessica Lew Fatt to express interest in becoming involved.

New aviation firefighters start at Darwin Airport

Three new aviation firefighters for Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) graduated from the 11 week Recruit Course this month, and began work at Darwin International Airport. The Recruit Course Graduation Ceremony was held in Melbourne. NT Airports congratulates Tom Frawley, Harrison Lee Schell and David Pettman on their outstanding achievement!

Program NTA - New Thinking and Approach

In April 2016, Northern Territory Airports launched Program NTA – New Thinking and Approach. The program is designed to improve and streamline business processes and practices, to help create a more productive environment for staff and stakeholders.

The dynamic Program NTA team is led by Jim Parashos, Director of Operations and Customer Experience, and includes Tara Dennison (Operations), Victoria Moore (Aviation Projects and Planning) and Selina Pollard (Commercial) as team leaders. The group is committed to working across all parts of the business to develop a model of continuous business improvement.

Phase 1 includes improving customer experience, training and efficiency within our accounts process, and improving the maintenance request system to minimise time spent by employees satisfying regulatory requirements.

Over the coming weeks Phase 1 will be complete, and we look forward to providing a further update of the Program NTA achievements in the next edition.

CUTE roll-out set to expand flexibility and reduce costs.

By the end of August, Darwin Airport’s check in and boarding gates will provide total flexibility to our airline customers, with the roll out of Rockwell Collins' ARINC vMUSE™, the latest cloud-based common-use terminal equipment (CUTE) technology.

CUTE technology provides airlines and customers with smarter and faster check-in processes, by allowing airlines to increase or decrease the number of desks dependant on passenger numbers. ARINC’s Multi-User System Environment (MUSE®) already supports more than 300 airlines at over 100 airports worldwide and will soon include Darwin Airport.

The introduction of a common use environment is the first phase of Darwin Airport’s focus in getting customers moving, reducing costs to airlines and providing an enhanced customer experience. The next phase in late 2016 will see the trial of two auto bag drop kiosks for multiple airline use. It is anticipated that after a successful trial these bag drops will be rolled out across the Darwin Airport check in hall, and Alice Springs Airport next year.

Relay for Life

Alice Springs Airport staff got active this month as part of the 2016 Alice Springs Relay for Life. The event raises money for the Cancer Council, an organisation which provides support, much-needed research and programs for those affected by cancer. Relay for Life also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer.

The central desert winter weather was no match for the Alice Springs team of eight who performed well, walking and running a total of 100km throughout the relay and helping raise money towards this worthy cause.

Dress to impress!

Helping to raise money for Variety NT, this year's Annual Charity Golf Day theme is AUSTRALIANA. Prizes for the best dressed!
