Winter in Minnesota
Songwriting, Shoveling, and Chopping Wood
This one's been pretty cold. That's for sure! It's seen the end of the Buick.. which died shortly after a double gig night in St. Paul to Minneapolis. It was towed away by NPR and hopefully will continue 'making' music (in it's own scrapped for cash kind of way).
I've been scrawling in the notebook..alot of rudimentary words, but there are songs starting to coalesce on its pages. Songs about spring and warm kitchens. Here's the view from my window..
Count 'em! --- Four Upcoming Gigs!
This Saturday Feb 15th @ Ward 6! 9:30pm-12pm. This is a great little spot for dinner and/or drinks at the bar. Local beer galore and some fun snacks or an all out meal to try. Hey, they've got fish'n'chips!! Who doesn't like fish 'n' chips with beer?!?
Saturday Feb 22nd @ Dunn Bros. on Grand Ave. 7:30pm-9:30pm.
Wednesday Feb 26th @ Driftwood Char Bar. Pete Seeger Tribute! I'll be playing three songs around 11pm along with many other musicians throughout the evening (music starts around 7pm). One of which will go out to the late Pete Seeger.
March 29th @ Dunn Brothers on Grand Ave
Folk 'n' Thieves
Laying low for now
Not too much going on for the Folk 'n' Thieves right now. It's been hard to get a five piece band together when the temperature is -15 degrees, (Punxsutawney Phil didn't help much this year either). But…stay tuned!
Still Goin' Strong!
We've just about made it through the winter at Blackbird! Not bad for a bunch of songbirds. If you haven't been by yet to check out the shop, please do. I lead an Adult Learner's Jam on Tuesday evenings @ 6:30pm throughout February that anyone is welcome to come listen or bring an instrument to. Basic chords and melodies, music is provided (sometimes by ear!!!)
On the right over there is a handmade Blackbird Ukulele. It sounds great and has made the winter a little more tolerable in the shop when folks stop in to play it!
That's all for now! Keep in touch!
