February is Library Lover's Month

How To Love Your Library:

  • Donate your time, money, and expertise to your library.
  • Remember your library in your estate planning.
  • Write a check to your library’s Friends group
  • Give to the library through your company’s matching program for charitable giving.
  • Join the Friends of the Rosendale Library.  We meet on the 2nd Sat. of every other month, next meeting is March 13 at 10am on Zoom.
  • Volunteer to staff events run by the Friends.
  • Offer a committed helping hand to your library’s staff.
  • Write to your state and federal legislators and insist that library service be viewed (and funded) as a necessary public service.  Click here to sign up for the New York Library Association’s list of trusted library advocates.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your newspapers or call in to a radio talk show to let them know how important your library is to you and how important it is to give the libraries full funding.
  • The Division of Library Development has calculated that for every $1 in state aid to the Mid-Hudson Library System our library’s community received $13 worth of services.  That is a fantastic return on investment we should all be concerned about preserving!

Matthew C. Bowen Memorial Scholarship $1,000

Every Spring the Friends of the Rosendale Library give a scholarship to a graduating high school senior.  The money is to be used for college expenses, books, etc.  Students from Rondout Valley, Kingston and New Paltz high schools who live in the Rosendale Library district may apply.
Applications have been sent to the above high school guidance offices and to the Rosendale Youth Center.  They are also available at the Rosendale Library desk.

The deadline for submissions is March 12.  Please bring completed applications to the library or mail to:
          Friends of Rosendale Library

          Rosendale, NY  12472
Applicants will be notified by April 30.

Vaccines are coming! While many people are now eligible to get vaccines, getting an appointment can be tricky. We have a packet of information about who qualifies now for a vaccine, and how to increase your chances of getting the vaccine sooner rather than later. The information packets are available at the library on demand. We will keep them updated as best as possible.

If you are wondering what to read next, there are NextRead newsletters that will give you descriptions of the latest books in a genre. To subscribe to any or all of these newsletters, follow this link and pick the genre(s) of your interest.

Today’s tip: I was asked recently how to make Libby—the app for OverDrive ebooks—give you a notification that your title has arrived. Like other apps, you have to go to the place in the Libby app that manages notifications (in mine it is a black and white Libby logo on the top right). You also have to go to the place in your device where the apps are stored and allow notifications from the Libby app.

We have started the walking club again so please consider getting outdoors for a socially distanced, masked walk with one of our library staff. Dress for the weather, and enjoy the season!

Writing Group Online

Feb. 16, 23, and March 2
 from 9:00

We will use prompts and exercises from Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg. This book is available at the library and in e-book format. Please read (or skim) the book prior to the first meeting.

Sign up on the library's website.

Election of Officers

The next meeting of the Friends is Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 10:00 am. Due to the pandemic, the meeting will be held on Zoom.  New members are welcome. Please join us as we continue developing plans for 2021.
