Rosendale Library
Budget Vote
Thursday September 7th 2017 11:00am-7:30pm
at the Rosendale Library
2018 Budget information is available at the library desk
Greetings from the Library Board! Once again it is approaching time for the annual vote on the operating budget for the Rosendale Library. The Board continues to strive to balance the needs of the library with attention to current economic realities. In addition to funding the library’s day to day operations, it is essential that we plan for anticipated improvements as well as being prepared for unanticipated expenditures. Despite challenging economic times we feel committed to our loyal and experienced staff and have included a modest 1% salary increase in this year’s budget.
The proposed budget for 2018 is $313,500, including $307,900 from taxes and the remainder from library revenues. This represents an increase of less than 1% (0.9177%) over last year’s tax levy. The proposed tax rate is $0.6123 per $1000 of assessed property value. Due to increased tax rolls, this means the property owner assessed at $100,000 will pay a library tax of $61.23 in 2018, thirty-five cents less than this year!
In addition to the budget vote, four current Board members are seeking re-election to a four year term. Beth King, Eric Morrow, Michael Thomas and Kathy Wiacek are all local residents with a passion for our library and a wealth of experience.
Trustees will be available to answer questions about the budget at 6:30pm on Wednesday August 23rd at the library prior to the board meeting (usually the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7pm and open to the public). Absentee ballots will be available at the library by August 18 and must be postmarked by September 5th or hand delivered to the library by September 6th. All registered Town of Rosendale voters are encouraged to vote. We hope you will continue to benefit from our library by utilizing its many offerings and we thank you for your ongoing commitment.

Summer Reading Update
Summer Reading Finale:
August 17, 10:00am
On July 19th, 9 young people, age 9 and up, participated in an Introduction to Babysitting workshop, sponsored by our Summer Reading Program and run by Amanda Tucker. These young people seemed to really enjoy the program and received their babysitting certification .
The children of Rosendale continue to read their books this summer. Their goal is to read 20 minutes a day. When they reach 500 minutes, their picture goes up on the Wall of Fame. Our end of Summer Reading Party will take place on Aug 17 at 10:00am.

Booksale a Big Success!
Thank you!
The Friends Annual Book Sale took place Sat., July 22 this year. We had many happy shoppers. Our profit was $1,149.
An event this big cannot happen without the help of many hardworking, people who are dedicated to the library.
A big THANK YOU to you all!
- To Wendy and the staff for accepting, sorting and dealing with all the great donations. To Andy for his expertise with the special books.
- To Ed Redelberger our Wednesday volunteer, who takes care of our book cellar sale all year. He also sorts and organizes donations for the Annual Sale.
- To all of the Friends of the Rosendale Library for your work year round, to Miriam Patton who spent hours organizing and cleaning the basement the days before the sale to Mary Potratz who spent hours sorting books, to all who came to set up the sale on Friday, who worked shifts during the sale, and who helped to clean up afterward.
- To Jim Wipf and his wonderfully strong helpers from Woodcrest who carried all the tables and books up and out of the basement before and away after the sale.
- To my co-chairs, Mary Potratz and Joan Boris and their untiring energy.
- To Essell Hoenshell-Watson, The Alternative Baker, who donated his yummy Lemon Cake for the volunteers.
- And to all of our donors who give us great donations.
Without you we couldn’t have a sale!
