Material Remains: Women and Textiles
with Scholar Hallie Bond
Wed, Oct 26
Rosendale Library
7 PM
Free
Rosendale Library is proud to present "Material Remains: Women and Textiles" with scholar Hallie Bond in conjunction with the New York Council for the Humanities.
Well into the 20th century, rural women produced most of the textiles used in their homes. Their quilts and coverlets are now prized by collectors for their looks, but what do they mean? Patterns and self-expression from fancy work to towels are revealed as ways used to express political beliefs, commemoration of loved ones and fashionable concerns. This lecture explores the fundamental changes affecting women’s lives, through textiles, over many generations.

Summer Reading Program a Big Success!
Rosendale children had lots of fun reading this summer. We enjoyed 12 wonderful programs including a puppet show and music with the local band, Dog on Fleas. Some of our special programs were at the Rosendale Community Center so our summer campers could join in. A total of 148 children attended our summer programs.
Our school age children worked with a teen volunteer on a writing program where they created their own stories. Parents and librarians were impressed with these wonderful stories written in the short one hour meetings.
All together our children recorded having read 280 books this summer!
