Scholarship Winner!

Angela Van Pelt wins the Anna Mae Auchmoedy / Lottie Burns Scholarship 2017

Every Spring the Friends of the Rosendale Library give a $800 scholarship to a graduating high school senior. The money is to be used for college expenses.  Students from Rondout Valley, Kingston, Coleman and New Paltz high schools who live in the Rosendale Library district may apply.
This year’s winner is Angela Van Pelt from Kingston high school.  She will be attending SUNY Geneseo in the Fall.  As Angela says, “Public libraries are also a great place to learn about the history of your town, like how Rosendale is known for “Rosendale Cement”.  I am proud to live in Rosendale and thankful that the Rosendale Library has helped me learn so much about my community, my world, and my interests (some of which I didn’t even know I had until I picked up a book!).”
We wish Angela all the best as she begins her journey in college.
Anna Mae Auchmoedy was the woman we have to thank for the original idea of the Rosendale Library.  Anna Mae and the Comus Club of Rosendale started our library in 1940.  The Women’s Club of Rosendale was key in promoting and supporting our young library.  Lottie Burns worked very closely with Anna Mae for many years.
