“Heaven’s Ditch: God, Gold, and Murder on the Erie Canal

Jack Kelly, journalist, novelist, historian

The technological marvel of its age, the Erie Canal grew out of a sudden fit of inspiration.  Proponents didn’t just dream; they built a 360-mile waterway entirely by hand and largely through wilderness. The Erie Canal made New York the commercial capital of America, and brought the modern world crashing into the frontier.
Jack Kelly explains the cultural upheaval created by gained and lost fortunes, in addition to the spiritual changes taking place during this time period of our nation’s history,  Book signing.

The Friends of Rosendale Library are in the process of erecting a Little Free Library. Here is a photo of the work in progress.  It will be placed at the Rosendale Community Center later this Spring.  It will be filled with free books for children and adults.

Millions of books are exchanged each year through these little libraries, increasing access to books for readers of all ages.

Did you know…

Academically, children growing up in homes without books are on average three years behind children in homes with lots of books.

Three out of four library users report that they’ve read a book they normally would not have because of a Little Free Library.

73% of people say they’ve met more neighbors because of a Little Free Library.

92% of users say their community feels like a friendlier place because of a Little Free Library.

We can’t wait to see the reaction of Rosendalians to this exciting venture!

Thank you for giving our books a good home!

Our first Book Adoption Day was a huge success.  Our patrons generously donated $642.00 in “adoption” fees and happily carried off many bags, boxes and armfuls of books.  Thank you to everyone who adopted, donated and staffed the Bookcellar.
