Katie's Corner

We are excited to announce that we are now offering free tutoring services for grade school through high school and some college from TUTOR.COM. Anyone with a library card can set up an account and get live tutoring between the hours of 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. daily. They have expert tutors in 25 subjects including math, sciences, test prep and writing. You can also send in your resume or cover letter and get feedback. This service is free for all Ulster County residents. We have a tutorial for using this service on our website accessed through the button: Get Help with Online Resources. To start a tutoring session, go to the “Free Tutoring” button on our website. Please spread the word, there are many students and parents struggling with distance learning this fall.

Thank you to all who came and voted at the library’s budget vote and trustee election. Ninety four people voted, 87 in favor of the 2021 budget, 7 against. Rose Unes and Bill Stamm were each elected to serve a partial term ending on December 31, 2021. We hope that everyone will exercise their right to vote in the November 3 general election. Thanks to early voting, many of us have already cast our ballots. If you need any information about polling places, please contact the library.

Thanks also to those who made the Great Giveback a success. Between October 1 and 17 we collected 128 food items for the Rosendale Food Pantry. With the other county libraries that participated in the “Food Fight” we collectively donated 1,723 food items to help alleviate hunger in our communities. We are leaving the donation bags out through the end of the year so that we can serve as a convenient drop-off place for the Rosendale Food Pantry. Look for the cart with two shopping bags in front of the library.

We are installing a tablet in the kiosk in front of the library so people can use the internet to check email or look things up quickly. We know its not the same as using the computers inside the library, but we are hoping it will be helpful for those needing it. This should be up and running in early November.

If you haven’t done so already, please fill out our patron satisfaction survey. We love hearing from people about their use of the library and what they hope we can offer in the future.

Financial Aid Presentation
