Library Garden in Bloom

The library gardens are in bloom and we don't want our patrons to miss this annual springtime show of beauty and color. Throughout the shutdown, landscaper extraordinaire, Terry Rowen, has been diligently working on our gardens. If you are in town, stop by for an in person look.

Katie's Corner

As we enter our 12^th week of closure, we are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. We have taken the opportunity while the library is closed to do some renovations and rearranging of the space. This will allow us to have more room for library programs as well as helping patrons and staff to work more safely during this pandemic. We are creating more spaces for people to work on computers and laptops while social distancing, and rearranging the staff work area for greater efficiency and more physical distancing in our work space. We are also having electrical and plumbing maintenance work done.

The majority of the cost for these renovation is being paid for by the Friends of the Library (thank you so much, everyone who has contributed!)

We have hired a local carpenter to remake some of the shelves as well as to install more small work areas for people to work on laptops that are at least six feet apart.

These changes will help everyone to better use the library space and enjoy its historic architecture.

When will the library reopen? We do not yet have a firm restart date. We are still obtaining supplies which are back ordered such as hand sanitizer. We will coordinate with the neighboring Ulster County libraries so that we can reopen together, somewhere toward the end of June. Our first phase of reopening will be curbside pickup. We will be issuing more information about the procedure for that in the next couple of weeks, please stay tuned.

We ask for your continued patience as we put all of the procedures and supplies in place in order to ensure the safety of everyone in the community.

We are planning to offer a summer reading program that is a collaboration with the other Ulster County public libraries. We plan to send another email in a couple of weeks with more information about the program and with more information about reopening. We are grateful to everyone for working together by staying home in order to keep everyone safe.

Please join us Thursday’s at 10am on Rosendale Library’s Facebook page for a wonderful live event! Miss Annie shares stories, songs, finger plays and craft ideas for you and your little ones to enjoy.

We will soon be announcing Summer Reading Program details for preschool and school-age children. Watch your email for a special message from us!

Librarian Diaries:

Community Submissions Welcome!

Since we closed our doors mid-March we have been keeping in touch with the community online via Facebook and Instagram. One way we have tried to keep connected is through diary posts on Facebook, both by librarians and community members.

We'd love your input! The diary post can really be anything: about how life is different, how you're coping, observations, thoughts, poems, and images. The diary posts have touched on many subjects; look on our Facebook page or the website for examples, or just express yourself your way. Email info@rosendalelibrary.org with your diary, and include pictures if possible!

Someday we will look back on all of this. I hope this is a chance in some small way, to make life better.
