Summer Reading

Memorial Day Parade

We had a great day at the Memorial Day parade.  The story hour children and their parents marched along with our supportive board members.  We dressed up as book characters and twirled our streamers as we marched up Main Street.  Thank you for all of your support.  We loved seeing everybody and enjoyed all the cheers for our library.

Our Summer reading program will launch on June 24 with Fre Atlast, who will do a drumming workshop.  We will make our own drums and parade with the Rosendale Improvement Association Brass Band as we play our drums.  Come join us at the library at 5:00 on Wed, June 24th.

Summer reading registration begins on Thursday, June 4th.  I will be at the library between 11am and 12pm for summer reading registration, please come sign up!

Scholarship Winner:

Jade Fogden

Congratulations to Jade Fogden, winner of the 2015 Anna Mae Auchmoedy/Lottie Burns Scholarship!

Every Spring the Friends of the Rosendale Library give a $750 scholarship to a graduating high school senior. The money is to be used for college expenses.  Students from Rondout Valley, Kingston, Coleman and New Paltz high schools who live in the Rosendale Library district may apply.

This year's winner is Jade Fogden from Kingston High School. She is planning on attending Ulster Community College in September. Her winning essay says, “Growing up in Rosendale has had a huge impact upon my life.  Even as a child, my love for reading and writing was always evident, so having a library so close to home and in school was always a pleasure.”

We wish Jade all the best as she begins her journey in college.

Anna Mae Auchmoedy was the woman we have to thank for the original idea of the Rosendale Library.  Anna Mae and the Comus Club of Rosendale started our library in 1940.  The Women’s Club of Rosendale was key in promoting and supporting our young library.  Lottie Burns worked very closely with Anna Mae for many years.

Our Library Elf,

Nancy Tuller has done it again

Just in time for the hot Summer, Nancy Tuller has donated some beautiful dresses for little girls, sizes 3-6.  Many of the dresses are made from new fabrics donated to her.  The pattern comes from “pillow case dress designs” that were made to be donated to girls in Africa.
The dresses will be available throughout the Summer at the Rosendale Library for $10 each.
Thank you, Nancy, for your untiring support of the Rosendale Library.

Library Champion Bookmark

Library Champion Bookmark: Help the New York Library Association (NYLA) Help Your Library! NYLA and the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) have partnered to create a "Library Champions" bookmark (above) useable year round to build our list of library advocates that are interacting with the NYLA Online Advocacy Center (OAC). Our Government Relations expert at NYLA, Mike Neppl, has challenged the library community to build our list, we need more than double the number of advocates currently enrolled in the OAC to make more of an impression during budget negotiations at the state level. The bookmark is appropriate for use year-round. NYLA will provide a letter in the OAC that can be sent at any time of year so that people new to the interface can take action right away, not just January - April.
