Goat & Sheep Barn Opening Celebration!

We hope you will join us to celebrate the completion of our Goat & Sheep Barn, a structure specially designed to meet the specific needs of the animals who will call it home. There will be lots to do at the celebration!

-Meet barn architect and lead builder Paul Drake
-Enjoy live music from Anonymous Bach
-Partake in a wide variety of vegan food and drink
-Tour the new barn and learn about its special features
-Meet other Refuge supporters
-Enjoy family-friendly lawn games
-Give out special treats to our rescued animals
-And participate in our barn blessing with wish lanterns!

Many months of hard work have gone into making this amazing barn a reality. We can't wait to raise a glass to all who have contributed! Join us on Saturday, August 29th, 5PM - 9PM. RSVPs are greatly appreciated.
A Busy Rescue Season

There have been a lot of new faces arriving at the Refuge over the past several months. In early June we took in 5 hens who had been brought to the Orange County animal shelter. They all came to us under-weight and full of parasites, indicating poor care at their previous home. We also partnered with Farm Sanctuary and took in 10 hens who had fallen off a transport truck on the way to a live market in Brooklyn. In late June we responded to 4 young farm pigs in need from Moore County and eventually transported them to new homes (we can't wait to be set up for pigs here at the Refuge!). Special thanks to supporter Fran Purcell-Abbott who played a huge role in their rescue. Our latest arrival is little Charleston, a young rooster who was found in the middle of the road in Greensboro, unable to walk. Charleston now has a slight limp but has recovered tremendously. Thanks to Amanda Fritz for finding this baby and getting him to the Refuge. Come meet our wonderful rescues in person by scheduling a free tour!

Announcing 2015 VegFest

Save the date for the amazing Triangle VegFest taking place Saturday October 17th, 12PM - 5PM at Moore Square and City Market in Downtown Raleigh, NC. Last year the festival brought in around 2,000 people from North Carolina and beyond to celebrate healthy, veg lifestyles. Attendees enjoyed local food, NC vendors, area non-profits (including Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge), food demos, live music, yoga and tai chi demonstrations, and expert speakers. This year promises to be even bigger and better, so don't miss it!
Monthly Work Day Fun

Join with a group of friendly, animal loving people on Saturday July 18th for our monthly sanctuary work day! No building experience is necessary, and you'll walk away feeling that you've helped accomplish something special. This month's efforts will be primarily focused on the Goat & Sheep Barn as we wrap up the construction work in preparation for the celebration at the end of August. You'll also get the chance to meet and hang out with our current rescued animals. Work days are great for team-building at your workplace, as a meaningful "date" with your loved one, and are kid and family friendly. Sign up for the morning or afternoon shifts. Hope you can make it!

Summer Vegan Outreach

This summer we've remained busy in our local community working to promote veganism. This quarter we held the first free class in our Vegan 101 series. "Cooking with Tofu & Tempeh" focused on simple techniques and recipes that everyone can apply at home, and close to 40 people attended! We also had booths at the Bimbe Cultural Arts Festival and the Festival for the Eno where we handed out free vegan food and educational literature. There will be much more to come this year, so stay updated on our outreach efforts by following us on Facebook and subscribing to our mailing list. Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who make this important work possible!
