2014 Summer Edition
View this email in your browser
The summer of 2014 has been a wonderful time for our organization. We welcomed our first sanctuary resident, Robby the rooster, who was rescued from Carrboro where he would have been killed. Shortly afterwards we worked with Farm Sanctuary and took in eleven birds who formerly lived within the factory farming industry. The three turkeys and eight hens had all been debeaked by industry workers before being rescued. Despite this, they show an amazing amount of curiosity and trust in us that grows more and more each day. We have many exciting plans for the upcoming months, so we hope you'll enjoy reading this newsletter and join with us as we work to advocate for farm animals and bring about a kinder world.
Goat & Sheep Campaign Launched

We are excited to begin our Goat & Sheep Campaign with an online fundraiser through Indiegogo that includes a $25,000 matching gift! Last year we had great success in raising funds for the Hen House Campaign, and we are working hard to make that happen again. We need your support as we work to build the infrastructure to take in goats and sheep coming from places of abuse, neglect and abandonment. Our Indiegogo fundraiser includes fun rewards for different levels of giving that you don't want to miss, and every dollar you give will be matched up to $25,000! Check out our campaign video and page at the donate button below!

Help Us Care for our Rescues

The Refuge is seeking volunteers interested in providing daily care to our rescued chickens & turkeys! Providing food, clean water, enrichment, treats, and quality time for socializing are all important parts of our animal care program. Our volunteers will also have opportunities to assist with medical care and to learn what it takes to care for farm animals responsibly. Our birds are looking forward to meeting you and we hope you'll enjoy spending time with them as much as we do! If you'd like to join us in caring for these special animals, please click the sign up button below. Once you fill out an application, we will contact you with further information on how you can start your volunteer experience.

Refuge Hen House Completed

Over a six month period and with the help of over 40 volunteers, the Refuge Hen House was built from the ground up and will now serve as a permanent home to chickens and turkeys in need of sanctuary. Our newest rescues will be moving into the Hen House at the completion of their quarantine time in just a few weeks! We would like to thank everyone who donated to our Hen House Campaign, volunteered on our weekend build days, and to all who celebrated with us at our Barn Opening Party! You can view photos of the completed barn and also see pictures from our celebration at the link below.
