2014 Winter Edition
View this email in your browser
Even amid the rain, snow and tornado we've received this season, in just 5 work days we've been able to make major headway on the Hen House, as can be seen in this latest photo of our barn. How have we done this? With the help of amazing volunteers who have traveled from near and far to lend a helping hand. You can be a part of our team of hard-working advocates by signing up to volunteer at an upcoming workday. There are many animals awaiting the completion of this barn, so let's get it done and bring them home!
New Website In Process
We're very excited to announce that we have a new website in the making! Thanks goes to Paul Drake for the sleek design, Jerry Rodriguez for building the framework, and Monika Caruso for her on-going work adding content and tweaking the look. Please keep checking back as our site develops, and we hope you'll let all of your friends know about our great work!
First Cooking Class Offered
Help us give a warm welcome to certified chef, teacher and writer Kevin Archer. Kevin has worked as culinary director, executive chef, and head baker at numerous restaurants across the US including the Laughing Seed Cafe in Asheville. Join us for a class on the fundamentals of flavor hosted in the community space of the Pacifica Co-Housing Community. 100% of profits will go directly to The Refuge. This is going to be a day you don't want to miss! Learn more about Kevin at his website, and find the event details at:

Office Building Purchased

Founder Lenore Braford teamed up with an anonymous donor to purchase an exciting property directly adjacent to the sanctuary land. This property includes 4 additional acres of land, a multi-purpose cinder block storage building, and an 1800 square foot house that will serve as the future office for the organization. We're thrilled that this opportunity became available, and that we no longer have to plan to build our own office space!
