2014 Fall Edition

Fall has been full of events for the Refuge! We participated in the NC Pride Festival and handed out over 900 free samples of vegan food. With a grant from VegFund, we were able to sample vegan sausage, soy yogurt and chocolate almond milk. We were proud to be involved and participate in the first ever Triangle VegFest, organized by the amazing Helene Greenberg, which brought in over 2,000 attendees. We raised $5,000 towards our Goat & Sheep Campaign at our fundraiser which included a silent auction, extensive raffle, open bar, and vegan food from local restaurants. Finally, we held our third vegan cooking class of the year, again brought to you by Vegan Chef Kevin Archer. With the theme of holiday cooking, Kevin taught us how to make  delicious cornbread stuffing, cranberry compote, pecan pie and more! We've been busy with all of these events, but we're not done yet! Read below to hear about another exciting upcoming event as well as more news from our organization.

A Day with the Turkeys

On Sunday November 30th, come out to our sanctuary for a special day of celebration of our rescued animals! From 10am - 4pm you can meet our animals, give out special holiday treats, get your picture taken with one of our birds, and cut your own holiday tree. You'll also have the opportunity to receive a tour and hear about our future plans for expansion and barn building. Afterwards, we're hosting an all vegan holiday potluck from 4pm - 7pm right next door at our office. RSVP is necessary to reserve your spot. We hope you'll join us for this peaceful holiday gathering!
15 Hens Find Refuge

On November 7th in the wee hours of the morning we welcomed the arrival of fifteen cornish hens to our sanctuary. Only four months old, these babies were brought to us from Brooklyn where they were rescued from the Kaporos rituals. Chef Kevin Archer made the long journey from Farm Sanctuary in New York to bring them to their permanent home here in North Carolina. We are grateful to Kevin for taking the long trip, the staff at Farm Sanctuary for their on-going support and animal care expertise, and for all of the folks involved with the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos. You can learn more about this effort below.

Goat & Sheep Campaign

After several fundraising efforts and many individual donors contributing to our campaign, we are excited to announce that we are 75% of the way towards our total fundraising goal of $100,000! Our Goat & Sheep Campaign seeks to raise the necessary capital to begin taking in goats and sheep in need of permanent sanctuary. In order to rescue these amazing animals we need to build roads, raise fencing, install plumbing and build a two story barn that includes a hay loft. With a $25,000 matching grant, we hope that our campaign will reach it's goal by the end of this year, allowing us to take in animals by the summer of 2015. You can help make this possible by making a donation today! Thank you for supporting our efforts to bring about a better world for farm animals.

Animal Sponsorship Program

You can help our sanctuary provide on-going top notch care for our rescues while creating a special relationship with a deserving animal. By becoming a sponsor, you will receive a framed portrait of your animal as well as a Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge window decal and any pertinent health updates from our Shelter Manager. After choosing an animal to sponsor, we hope you'll email us to schedule a visit to meet him or her in person!
