2015 Winter Edition
View this email in your browser
Greetings and happy 2015 from everyone at Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge! All of us are excited to share this newsletter with you and let you know about some of the exciting projects we have planned. In 2015 we'll be promoting veganism with delicious treats at our annual bake sale and with a series of cooking classes & demonstrations that can benefit everyone from the beginner cook to those wanting to learn advanced cooking techniques. We'll also be attending numerous festivals where we'll give away free vegan food samples and distribute educational literature. We plan to welcome goats and sheep to our sanctuary this summer, and in the fall we'll start fundraising to welcome even more animals! We're excited to once again be a big part of the Triangle VegFest, and we can't wait to hold our annual Day With the Turkeys celebration in November! It's going to be a big year for us, and we're grateful for your continued support of our life-saving work. Read below to catch up on what we've already been up to in 2015 and for opportunities to get involved!

Goat & Sheep Barn Update

Thanks to your support we are making great headway in the construction of our barn for goats and sheep. Small pines have been cleared from the build site, fence posts have begun to be installed, and a large amount of the wood framing has been completed! In addition to work at the sanctuary, a portion of the barn was erected on the campus of NC State University in order to receive architectural feedback from students and professors in the NC School of Design. Big thanks goes to Paul Drake for his work designing and building this structure, and to Susie Coston of Farm Sanctuary for her time advising us on this project. You can help us welcome goats and sheep this summer by donating towards this project. We can't wait to keep sharing our progress with you!

Our Latest Rescues

The year had barely begun when we heard about two individuals who were in need of a safe home. Cain the rooster (top photo) was relinquished at the Wake County Animal Shelter. We don't know the story of his past, but we're grateful to animal advocate Shiloh Grant who transported him to the safety of the Refuge. Henrietta the hen (bottom photo) was living in the parking lot of a bank in Graham, NC. A concerned couple called us and we were happy to provide a permanent home for her. We'd like to thank Valerie and Mike for helping Henrietta and also for choosing to sponsor her. You can sponsor one of our animals and help us provide them with top-notch care. Check out the awesome perks you'll receive and choose an animal at link below!
Volunteer Work Days

We are now offering monthly opportunities to chip in at the sanctuary. We have a ton of projects going on and we need your help to accomplish them all! Join with other animal lovers, meet our current residents, and contribute your time to a great cause. Our February work day is already full, but sign-ups are available for March, April and May. Meet Our Animals

Talk to a turkey, hold a hen, and learn about these amazing animals when you schedule a tour at Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge! Founder Lenore Braford will introduce you to each of our animal residents and share their individual stories of rescue. You'll also learn about the hardships that farm animals face in our society, and what YOU can do to make a better world for them. Additionally, you'll get the opportunity to feed treats to the animals and hear about our on-going and future plans to expand our sanctuary. Tours can be scheduled individually by contacting us over email. We hope to see you soon!
Upcoming Outreach Events

Attention all volunteers! We have three vegan outreach events scheduled for this spring and we need your help to advocate for farm animals. At each festival you'll help hand out free vegan food samples, distribute our innovative educational literature (cover pictured at left), and spread the word about the work of our organization.
