September 2013 Newsletter

Our mission is to build a healthier community through the facilitation of youth and community garden programs and the promotion of a sustainable local food system.

           Coming up next week...

Ohana Kuleana Community Garden

Last week we had an excellent (and tasty) workshop on Harvesting & Cooking with Erin Jolley of Cooking Matters. We learned about incorporating garden produce in our daily cooking and made tasty garden pesto wraps (See recipe here).

As one participant said, "Erin turned cooking into an adventure!"

The next workday at the OKCG will be on Saturday September 28th from 9 - 11 am.

Manna Soup Kitchen
On Monday (Labor Day) September 2nd we'll be hosting a special hands-on workshop at Manna on "Planting your Fall Garden" from 10 am -12.
For the rest of September, join Garden Manager, Frank LeBeau every Wednesday from 10-12 to help in the garden and learn some amazing biodynamic gardening techniques.

Needham Elementary School Garden

Join us for our next workday Thursday, September 5th right after school gets out from 3:15 - 5:15 pm. Zia Taqueria will be providing a chips & salsa bar!

This will be a BIG DAY for the garden so please bring your gloves, wheelbarrows, shovels & rakes. We need YOUR HELP!

Please RSVP by Tuesday.

If your child attends Needham, please fill out our family form to volunteer or donate.

The garden needs help to be completed. Please Donate today.

Tour de Farms

This past Saturday 45+ bikers of all ages stopped by the Ohana Kuleana Community Garden on the Tour de Farms.

Check out the article in The Herald and don’t forget to look at the photo album which highlights all of the beautiful veggies the members have been growing!

Thanks to the wonderful members who came by to share our little slice of paradise with the bicyclists.

And a big thank you to our friends at Growing Partners who organized this fun event!
