Lionano: Customer Discovery Experts
This Cornell team headed by Alex Yu and Siyu Huang is currently working to commercialize their anode technology for lithium ion batteries (project description here).

After conducting 78 customer interviews since May, including several trips to battery manufacturers in China, this team has made significant changes to their Business Model Canvas. In the search for product market fit, they have identified two distinct markets that they could potentially pursue first - consumer electronics and electric vehicles.

After talking to dozens of individuals in both segments, the team has discovered that not all of their value propositions are important for both segments. For example, cost reductions are important for the still emerging EV market while the consumer electronics market cares much more about press density, which was not a value proposition the team had originally considered.

However, the team still has much work today before they find product-market fit. They still need to identify which market they will pursue first and investigate their current pricing hypotheses. They also are working on estimating how long it would take a small to medium sized manufacturer to adopt their technology.

Kudos to the team for being so committed to the customer discovery process!
