Cycle 6 kicks off!

January 2019

Happy New Year!
We have kicked our year off with our Bootcamp for our brand new cohort of teams. The Cycle 6 applicants have been working their way through the 8-week process that started with an in-person kickoff in New York City and has now transferred into weekly video presentations on Zoom. The teams are all hard at work with their mentors getting customer interviews and iterating on their business models. We have seen so much progress already and are looking forward to seeing how they improve their proposals.
The holidays are a time to reflect and feel gratitude for all of the wonderful people and resources that make our program possible. To that end, we joined forces with a number of our partner programs that are also funded at least in part by NYSERDA to host a Cleantech Thank You Party for all of our mentors, reviewers, entrepreneurs in residence, and others who lend their time and expertise to all of our clients. Our programs would not be nearly as effective without their assistance!
I also want to take the time to thank our partners on that event – CEBIP, Cleantech Open, Cleantech Venture Exchange (CVX), M-Corps, and the NYSERDA Entrepreneur-in-Residence (NEIR) program. We work frequently with these partners and others in the cleantech and the more general startup ecosystems within the state. They each have unique programs that fulfill key needs many startups have as they seek to commercialize their technologies. Collaboration allows all of us to keep from reinventing the wheel and instead lean on each other’s core competencies to enhance our own programs and deliver more complete programming to our clients and awardees. I am grateful that we operate in such a cooperative ecosystem and hope you consider getting involved with one of their programs or with any of the other programs or events featured in our newsletters and calendar.

  Cohort Update

PowerBridgeNY Cycle 6 Bootcamp

We were excited to have special guest Steve Blank (one of the creators of the Lean Startup methodology) join us for our Cycle 6 Bootcamp Kick-Off!
Our Cycle 6 Bootcamp is off to an exciting start. 14 cleantech teams from our partner universities are participating in this year's bootcamp which started with a 3 day intensive session from January 7th to 9th. On the first day of the bootcamp we received a visit from Steve Blank, one of the creators of the Lean Startup methodology, who stopped by to speak with our teams. Steve enrcouraged teams to be open to hearing bad news and to approach questions with an open mind.

The full bootcamp is an 8 week process during which teams are expected to complete 100 customer interviews. The bootcamp will culminate in an in-person finale on February 25th and 26th. After the bootcamp teams will submit their PowerBridgeNY full proposals and we will make awards in the spring. We have been impressed with the hard work teams are putting in so far and are grateful for the support of our instructors and mentors who are making it possible!

NY Cleantech Community Thank You Party 2019

Testing with Humans, the sequel to bestseller Talking to Humans, teaches entrepreneurs, innovation teams, and product teams how to run effective experiments. An experiment is a test designed to help you answer the questions "Should we do this?" or "Am I right about this?" If you are open to learning, the insights from your experiments will help you refine your creation and improve your odds of success.
