June is Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈🎉 and over the next four weeks Denver will be teeming with events to celebrate our LGBTQ community. Here are just a few of the parties, activities, and seminars on our calendar this June:

June 7-13 Boulder County Pride: Boulder County’s week of pride events will feature an LGBTQ Family Planning Seminar, an LGBTQ video game tournament, city motorcades, and much more.

June 13 Drag Brunch: 10 Barrel Brewing is hosting a Pride Month Drag Brunch spotlighting Denver’s most iconic drag performers.

June 22-27 X Fest 2021: Denver’s staple LGBTQ bar and dance club, X Bar, is recognizing Pride Month with 10 days of DJs, dancing, drink specials, and after-parties.

June 26 Pride 5K: The annual Cheesman Park Pride 5K will take place virtually and in-person. Register here.

June 26-27 Pride Hubs: Though the Denver PrideFest parade will be virtual this year, you can find in-person celebrations throughout the city on Pride Weekend with pop-up parties and events at The Center on Colfax, the Jewish Community Center, the SIE Film Center, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and more.

🥵 How hot is a typical Denver summer?
Denver hit its first 90-degree day of the year over the weekend (woof!). Forecasters expect temps to continue to hover in the upper 80s all week long, and it will likely only get hotter from here. In the last six years Denver has had a higher-than-average amount of 90-degree days, including a record-breaking 75 in 2020. [9News]

💵 And the first winner of the vaccine sweepstakes is…
On Friday, officials announced healthcare data analyst Sally Sliger from Mead as the first winner of the Colorado Comeback Cash program. Sliger was randomly selected to receive $1 million from Colorado’s pool of vaccinated residents as part of the state’s COVID vaccine sweepstakes. There will be four more drawings, with winners announced June 11, 18, 25 and July 7. [CO Sun]

🚲 Denver bike thefts on the rise
Nearly 600 Denverites have already reported their bikes stolen in 2021. This time last year, that number was 643, and by the end of summer it jumped up to almost 1,000. According to city data, bike thefts have increased 49% since 2017, with Five Points, Cap Hill, and Union Station among the hardest hit areas.

Finally, after years of one-offs and piecemeal funding measures, state lawmakers managed to pass a major transportation bill to help fix our crumbling roads. Denver Post reporter Jon Murray explains why it took so long.
