WEATHER: ☀️ 65° / 34°

Where’s the snow? ⛄

Today marks a historic milestone for Denver weather. We are 326 days into 2021 and have yet to see Denver’s first measurable snowfall of the year, thus breaking a record almost 100 years old.

Why so late this year? Freelance meteorologist / City Cast Denver weather guru Andy Stein says there’s no single reason for the unseasonable temps. Rather, he cites our exceptionally hot, dry summer; weak storms; and maybe even La Niña as possible culprits.

🚲 Denver’s bike thieves: We’ve talked about Denver’s near historic rate of bicycle thefts this year and last. Turns out it’s not the playground bully. A grand jury has just indicted eight people in a suspected crime ring accused of stealing nearly $1 million in high-end bicycles across the Front Range. [KDVR]

📚  “It was kind of discouraging, but it’s still not as bad as COVID”: That’s what Capitol Hill Books owner Holly Brooks told Denverite after someone in a pick-up truck smashed through her storefront last week, destroying a whole wall of rare and valuable books. [Denverite]

💰 Denver school board to pay its members: Starting in January some Denver school board members will be the first ever to receive pay for their time on the board. Eligible members will now be able to earn up to $150 per day for as many as five days per month. The hope is to break down access barriers and extend the opportunity to a more diverse pool of candidates. [CPR]

👉 Speaking of Denver Public Schools: 108 district employees are facing termination for refusing to get a COVID vaccine. [Chalkbeat]

🛬 “Justice for Janitors”: After months of negotiations over pay and hours, 350 janitors at DIA went on an open-ended strike Saturday morning that threatened to complicate Thanksgiving travel plans across the region. Flagship Facility Services quickly agreed to increase wages to $4 per hour over the course of a new three-year contract. [Denver Post]

🚩 “I’m a victim of false allegations that almost took my life”: After being at the center of a six-month sexual-assault investigation in which the most serious allegations were unsubstantiated, Denver school board member Tay Anderson is suing his accusers for defamation, seeking damages of at least $1 million.
