Research Assistant Opportunity: 
Cataloging, Mapping, and Assessing New Jersey’s Local Journalism Ecosystems, Phase III


The Tow Center for Digital Journalism is pleased to offer the opportunity to apply for a research assistant (RA) position on a project led by Tow fellow Sarah Stonbely (Center for Cooperative Media, Montclair State University). This project identifies all local-news-providing outlets for New Jersey; maps the local news ecosystems of NJ; creates a detailed accounting of the methodology; analyzes the local news ecosystems for news deserts and news oases; analyzes the content produced; and identifies structural variables related to the health of local journalism.

Covering Germantown: the road to community engagement

With colored pencils and sharpies scattered across a table, residents of Germantown, a majority-African American neighborhood in Northwest Philadelphia, narrated images...several had made line drawings of police cars or guns, participants had drawn how they felt their community was represented in local news media.
