I love summer!

Summer is super fantastic in the Pacific Northwest, all those months of rain sure pay off during the next three months! The farmer's market, the long leisurely days, mild temperatures, perennials, vegetables and a bounty of fresh fruit is everywhere! I love it! I love to garden, so this climate is perfect for my passion. I used to have an English garden, when I lived in England, easy to do so there, since it rains for eleven months of the year! Not so easy to do that in Oklahoma!

Reina's long visit!

Reina and her two cocker spaniels are here for the duration of the summer. Great for me, since I get to have my trusty sidekick to partake in all my escapades. We have already had one mini road trip, to Hood River. We packed up the pups and had sandwiches on the ready with Coke, the only few times I allow myself to indulge in drinking soda-- sigh! We have also made regular visits to the Beaverton "super" farmer's market, it's almost a carnival atmosphere every Saturday with fresh produce and all types of cuisine to savor. We plan to go to Salt and Straw a famous ice cream store in the next few days. There is no shortage of a multitude of culinary delights to sample, we plan to take advantage of this perfect weather and enjoy our time together. A trip to the beach is planned as well as investigating Bend Oregon, I hear they have 300 days of sunshine in that town. I have to check that out!

Solstice celebrations!

The Summer Solstice was yesterday, June 21st., the longest day of the year was spectacular. One day I plan to be in England at Stonehenge and witness either the summer or the winter Solstice. A great way to celebrate the longest and the shortest days of the year. Here's a link to an interesting article!

Your recycle tip.

Save the water as you wash your dishes, this can be used in your garden or to water your houseplants. Great way to minimize water wastage!

Thoughts.

This is a shorter newsletter, seems as though too many other things occupy one's time in the summer. I didn't do a television segment this month and I am not teaching during the summer. I will teach again in the fall. I will be back on KATU next month as well. It's great to be able to spend time with family. I have enjoyed watching Reina cook the specialities my mother used to make and now I have passed on those secrets to her. I used to love to watch my mother cook, the same way my daughter watches me and soon, my grand daughter will be old enough to learn. These are the true gold nuggets of life! Let me know how you like to spend time with your loved ones.

Sunny days are here!
