Seed Swap Season is Hot!

Greetings, and welcome to the new subscribers!

It's time for the 5th Annual Taos Seed Swap! Hundreds of gardeners gather to exchange seed and knowledge, then move on to a new and adventuresome growing season. This year, it's at Earthgoods, the same place we were last month. See the flyer for details.

Spread the word! We are not advertising in the paper this year, but we will have PSAs on the region's radio stations, and Casey will be on KTAO and LUNA on Friday morning.
Seed swappin'

Please bring seed to exchange! Homegrown is especially welcome, but I know how seed packets pile up year after year. Check a
seed viability chart to figure out if your seed is fresh.

Seed may germinate after a few years, but plant vigor may be reduced. The fresher the seed, the better. I have received seed from as far back as 2000, and I just put it in my compost pile. Do me a favor. Save me the time, and compost it yourself. Thanks!

If you don't have seed, you can buy some right at Earthgoods to use as your trade item. Please support all the partners of the Taos Seed Exchange!

When this seed swap is over, I am putting up two more seed exchange stations - one at ReThreads, and one in the Dixon Market - with the seed you bring to the seed swap. So we need you to do some exchanging!

Donations from seed companies are WAY down this year. There are so many seed libraries and exchanges popping up that overstock is spread thin. Most companies are donating more locally than they have in the past. They also prefer donating to non-profits, which the Taos Seed Exchange is not.

That said, grow out one crop just for seed this year, and return the seed to the exchange. This way, our community seed exchange is sustainable. Here are the
5 Easiest Plants for Seed Saving.

As always, there is a donation jar to cover the expenses involved, which include, among other things, shipping, paper, ink, pens, tape, scissors, envelopes, signage, and gas.
CSA Shares of Starts and Seeds

Shares for spring and summer planting are available to order! Delivery at the right time for planting - greens for spring, and tomatoes, peppers, squash and cucumbers for summer! Be sure to get what you want by ordering early. I have limited space, and I do run out of things! With a share, you are guaranteed your plants.
