September 2021 Newsletter

Welcome to our latest newsletter.  We hope that you have been able to enjoy your summer.  Thank you to all that attended the Annual Garden Party which was organised and hosted by Sandie and Andrew Tate in their beautiful garden in Ballingdon Street.  Huge thanks to them both and everyone that helped to make it such a lovely afternoon.

Some of the Executive Committee spent a few pleasant hours in the company of members of the Lavenham Society recently, and it is hoped that we can continue to build a connection with them, both to support them in the production of their own local list and to keep a coordinated eye on planning issues in the wider region.   Thank you to Ian and Suzie Liddell for hosting and providing refreshments.

We take a break from meetings in August but we have still been seeing to some Society business, not least of all Sandie who has been very busy,  plotting and organising a series of Society member events to take us through to July next year.

That being the case, we are delighted to let you know that on September 23rd, at 7pm in the Town Hall, we welcome Sara Tatum, founder of the Rug & Carpet Studio in Long Melford.  Sara is recognised as an expert within the rug and carpet industry and is in demand from national charities, societies and interior designers to deliver illustrated lectures in a whole range of topics from the art of oriental rug making, the history of oriental rugs, through to room design.

As this is the first event for some 18 months, it would be useful to have an idea of how many members are ready to break purdah and have an evening spent in company.  Would you therefore indicate if you are comfortable to come along please by clicking on the very quick survey button below (no sign ups required; just a quick yes or no). Thank you.

Volunteering Opportunities

The Sudbury Society is entirely volunteer led, and we desperately need new recruits!  Do you have a few hours a month to spare?  if so, we would really love to hear from you.

Membership Secretary

The main duties of the membership secretary is to manage the renewals process every year, and to encourage and welcome new members to the Society.

Events Officer

The role of the Events Officer is to plan and coordinate a range of events, which are held on a monthly basis (evenings usually) throughout the year.

Anticipated time commitment for these key roles is about 5 hours per month each, including attendance at meetings, and for both you will need to be organised and enthusiastic!  You'll be warmly welcomed to the team, and supported in your role by other committee members.

If you are interested in learning more, please do drop us a line to info@sudburysociety.org.uk and we'd be very happy to have a chat.

Next Newsletter....

Our next newsletter will concentrate on planning.  The Society has recently been consulted on a few key matters, including Babergh District Council's plans to develop a new entrance to Belle Vue Park, and on the plans to develop the lorry park into a new GP medical centre.  Once we have had a chance to gather our thoughts on these at our next Executive Committee Meeting on the 20th September, we'll update members on our position.
