I've always found this time of year to be a challenge to dress for—winter isn't quite over, but all the festive winter dressing is, meanwhile, retailers are dropping resort collections as if we're all about to go on tropical vacations (please take me with you if you have one booked), yet Fashion Week is right around the corner, so we're stuck holding our breath for the new inspiration to hit. What’s a girl to do then, when all you really want to wear is a pair of sweats? Below, a few slightly-more-dressed-up ideas for the office, if you have to show up.

1. The New Leather Jacket.
This season marks the return of the (faux) leather belted jacket. Paired with a simple outfit and architectural accessories, it's sleeker than you'd think.

|
2. The Color Burst.
Make your summer dresses work year-round under an oversized coat and chunky accessories that will help temper the brighter print.

|
3. The Modern Monochrome.
Wearing a matching sweater and loose trousers is basically the same concept as sweats, right? Slightly less comfortable, but slightly more "work appropriate." Slip on an interesting pair of loafers and you'll at least get to feel like you're in polished PJs all day.

4. The Flared Jean.
It's also time to break out your flared jeans again. Offset the retro reference with preppy knits and classic pumps to avoid feeling like a total hippie, and consider topping the outfit with a statement cardigan for a fun touch.

|
5. The Cropped Suit.
The suiting trend isn't going anywhere, any time soon. Hemlines, however, are getting an update: a cropped blazer is officially a must (and you'll get bonus points if you find an old suit to get hemmed). Let the suit do the work for you and keep your accessories simple.
