Serving Communities with Courage and Compassion, 26-28 February 2020
All are welcome to join our national Catholic Social Services conference, Serving Communities with Courage and Compassion, 26 – 28 February 2020, Catholic Leadership Centre, East Melbourne. This follows our successful 2018 national conference, Hearing Healing Hope, which engaged more than 250 participants from across the country. The conference aims to advance our contribution through a shared focus on mission and on key issues facing Australians on the margins today.

NAIDOC Week: celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
We are in the midst of NAIDOC Week, 7 - 14 July, with celebrations being held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated in Indigenous communities, and all are invited to join in.  Cliek for the Catholic Bishops'  Pastoral Letter.

Homelessness Forum for Parishes - A Call to Action
Fifty five people from 25 parishes from Mt Eliza to Lilydale gathered last month to consider what they might do as individuals, parishes and networks to reduce homelessness and its impact. The variety of examples and insights left everyone with something to follow up.

Sandhurst parishioners tackle homelessness
Sixty-five people from parishes across the Diocese of Sandhurst gathered recently in Shepparton to discuss and share ideas about what could be done to alleviate homelessness in the region. Each of the participating parishes adopted a plan to make a real difference. Read more...

The Plenary Council 2020 has released the six themes for deeper reflection and eventual decision-making and action. A number of them speak to our core work with and serving the most vulnerable in our communities. Applications are invited to join  working groups.

Walking on The Land with Catholic Social Teaching, 29 August 2019
All are invited to participate in the next Walking the Land with Catholic Social Teaching workshop on Thursday 29 August 2019. It will begin with a guided Yarra River walk at Amberley Centre, 7 Amberley Way, Lower Plenty. The river workshop provides a practical experience of applying the principles of Catholic Social Teaching to promote the flourishing of creation and the building of a more just and compassionate society. Read more...

On 3 July, CatholicCare opened the doors to a new office in Geelong; one which sees the Geelong Family Relationship Centre, CatholicCare Archdiocese of Melbourne and Centacare Ballarat co-locating at 7-9 Ryan Place.

Missionary Sisters of Service celebrate 75-year anniversary
Congratulations to the Missionary Sisters of Service, who celebrated 75 years of going out into the highways and byways of Australia and beyond, on 8 July. Official celebrations took place on Sunday 7 July at the parish of St Thomas the Apostle in Blackburn, with joy and gratitude being the major themes throughout the day.

On 30 July we mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Please consider a donation to our member organisation, Australian Catholic Religious Against the Trafficking in Humans (ACRATH) so that it can continue its work with the community towards the elimination of human trafficking in Australia, the Asia Pacific region, and globally.

Aboriginal Catholic Ministry invite you to join them for their NAIDOC Mass at St Francis Church, 326 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne at 11.00am on Sunday 14 July 2019. This will be followed by light refreshments in St Francis Pastoral Rooms where you can view a pictorial journey through Aboriginal culture from colonialization through their suffering and on to their hopes and dreams for the future. Run Melbourne, raising funds for Catholic social services agencies
A couple of our member agencies are hitting the track on Sunday 28 July 2019 as part of Run Melbourne to raise money for their work. The staff at Good Samaritan Inn are raising funds to enable more women, young people and children experiencing family violence and homelessness to access its crisis service. Money raised by the CatholicCare will go toward its refugee support programs. Read more...

Highways and Byways: A Community of Service welcomes everyone to its 2019 John Wallis Memorial Lecture in Melbourne on Tuesday 13 August 2019 at Genazzano FCJ College, Kew, at 7pm. Trivia fundraiser for Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project's work

A Good Lunch fundraiser to help women experiencing homelessness, 29 August
McAuley Community Services for Women is hosting a special lunch on Thursday 29 August to help raise funds for its work in supporting women who are experiencing homelessness. It'll take place at Zinc, Federation Square, 12pm for 12.30pm start - with bubbles on arrival!

Lead the Way Towards Wellbeing, 31 October - 1 November
MacKillop Family Services is hosting Lead the Way Towards Wellbeing – a two-day conference on loss, grief and trauma at Sydney’s Waterview on 31 October and 1 November 2019. The event is part of MacKillop’s commitment to empowering children, young people and families to heal from adversity. It will feature national and international experts along with recent research and evidence-based strategies that can be integrated into school or organisation wellbeing practices. Read more...
