Doing Good while Feeling Good!
Dear AWFH members and friends,

Summer is here and we have some hot deals for you!
Cancer and trauma survivors are able to sign up and experience an hour-long FREE therapeutic boating session on August 29, 10-11am, courtesy of Community Boating. We are also part of the Macy's Shop for A Cause campaign. Buy a shopping pass for $5 and receive 25% off of any Macy's store purchase. Scroll below for more information!

We have been hard at work to continue our advocacy work: On June 24, we convened a meeting with Department of Mental Health Commissioner, Joan Mikula to discuss Asian American mental health needs and the TEAM (Together Empowering Asian Minds) website initiative. On July 10, we met with Commissioner Monica Bharel and Georgia Simpson May (Director, Office of Health Equity at MA Dept of Public Health) to discuss the need for disaggregated data and representation of Asian Americans in the leadership roles in health board/advisory committees. And on July 20, we held our annual Open Board Meeting, discussing AWFH's accomplishments over the years to the public.

We will also launch the Achieving Whole Health workshop in the fall to pilot a group intervention program to help Asian women set personal  health goals, and a research study to learn more about Asian women's use of preventative care. Thank you again for your support! If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer or a workshop participant, please contact me at:

Meet... Pata Suyemoto!
Pata Suyemoto is a writer, independent scholar, and mental health activist who has been involved with Asian Women for Health for a number of years. In May 2013 she was a speaker at AWFH’s conference, “State of Asian Women’s Health in Massachusetts Forum.” Last October, she was a model for AWFH’s “Celebr Asains” benefit fashion show, and will also be modeling in this year’s event as well.  Recently, she was given the opportunity to be trained as a whole health coach with the Achieving Whole Health Program.  This fall, she and two colleagues will be piloting an Achieving Whole Health group for Asian women who want to improve their health through an exploration of body, mind, and spirit and the connections among them.
