NEOBA Blues School offers the opportunity for high school age students to engage in learning and talent development. Blues School will use the study of Blues music in a hands-on approach. Students will be exposed to a tradition of music that is steeped in the roots of American culture. The goal is to study and learn about the Blues genre and to break down racial barriers and open a dialogue about cultural diversity through music.
High school age musicians and vocalists will play with other students from around the area in a performance band format. Through a series of workshops and classes, students will learn a repertoire of Blues music, the art of improvisation and solos, methodology of rehearsals as well as techniques of jamming, stage presence and performance. A strong commitment to learning about the historical origins of the Blues genre will be at the core of Blues School.
