U.S. Bicycle Route 41: From St. Paul to Grand Portage

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is working in partnership with communities and bicyclists from Grand Portage to Saint Paul to identify, designate and promote a new bicycle route: U.S. Bicycle Route 41. Once completed, the bicycle route will connect existing roads and trails between Saint Paul and Grand Portage State Park.

Participate in the Tofte open house next week to help refine the draft route, name the route, engage in conversations about bicycling and more! There will be a brief presentation followed by an open house with activities to gather your input. Kids activities and light refreshments provided.

Thursday, June 16th, 4-6 pm
Bluefin Bay Resort, Tofte Room
7192 W Hwy 61, Tofte, MN

2016 Great Place Project: 15 Projects Across Cook County

Twenty-five local businesses, organizations, and individuals applied for the 2016 Great Place Project, a collaborative effort of the Cook County Chamber of Commerce and the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic’s Moving Matters project. The Great Place Project is a friendly, local opportunity for funds to use high impact, low cost ideas to create great places in our communities. Funding amounts range from $250 to $1,250 per selected project. This year the Minnesota Power Foundation has joined as a major sponsor of the Great Place Project, with additional funds from the Cook County Community Fund and the Chamber of Commerce.

Of the many great project ideas, fifteen Great Place projects will be popping up across Cook County this spring and summer. Congratulations to these great local applicants! See the full list of projects at: http://becausemovingmatters.org/greatplaceproject/.

News from the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic:
Local Food Market
Starts Thursday, June 9th

Last summer the Local Food Market started at the Cook County Community Center each Thursday evening. This year, it will be returning starting on Thursday, June 9th 4-5:30 pm. This is a farmers market for anyone looking to sell or purchase Cook County locally grown vegetables, fruits and food.

If you are interested in selling your locally grown or produced food, please contact Diane 387-3015 or Kristin 387-2330 for more information.
Moving Matters is a project of the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and many local partners. We strive to create safer and more accessible walking and biking routes for people of all ages and abilities throughout Cook County and Grand Portage. Funding for this project is provided by the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, as part of Blue Cross’ long-term commitment to tackling the leading causes of heart disease and cancer: tobacco use, lack of physical activity and unhealthy eating.
