Free Winter Care Packs available
 
After the success of last year, VSI Alliance are running their Winter Care Packs project again for 2022. Thanks to funding from the Calderdale & Huddersfield Urgent and Emergency Care Board, the pack includes some Winter essentials to support local people to keep healthy, warm and hydrated.
 
These Packs are available for free to Calderdale organisations supporting vulnerable individuals across the borough.

News

LGBTQ+ Young People's Service Calderdale
The Calderdale Positive Identities group will be run by the Brunswick Centre’s yOUTh service. The group currently meets in Halifax and Todmorden each week. It will continue to do so along with other youth provision of LGBTQ+ in Calderdale.The Brunswick Centre and Barnardo’s are working closely together to ensure the group runs as normal, and if you have any questions, comments or concerns please call Barnardo’s on 07731 996 923 or the Brunswick Centre on 01422 341 764.

Help for Households
The government has worked with a range of Internet Service Providers (IPSs) and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to deliver low-cost broadband and phone service packages, called social tariffs, for those on low incomes.
Social tariffs are available for people claiming Universal Credit, Pension Credit and some other benefits, with some providers offering deals from £15 a month. Click Social tariffs toolkit to find out more.

Our time is now” – Plan launched to improve safety of women and girls across West Yorkshire 
The safety of women and girls in West Yorkshire is Mayor Tracy Brabin’s top priority, she said as she unveiled a plan to bring about societal change and end generations of injustice. The country’s first and only female metro-mayor has this week launched her Safety of Women and Girls Strategy at West Yorkshire’s annual Third Sector Conference in Calderdale. Carers Wellbeing Service Calderdale : Winter Warmer Lunch Club
Carers Winter Warmer Lunch Club is continuing through out winter including over the festive period. The lunch club takes places every Thursday between 12 and 3pm at Boothtown Methodist Church.Each week carers and the person they care for can join us for a hot hearty meal, hot drinks and cake. We also have entertainment including professional singers, craft activities, bingo plus much more! Those attending can also take away food items, clothing and household essentials. You do not need to book or attend every week you can just pop in at any time.

We know that the winter months are going to be difficult for so many of us and we do not want any carer to struggle alone. If you would like to know anything more about the sessions please ring our office on 01422 369101.

Re-engage Community Christmas Directory
Christmas can be a lonely time for many older people. But it doesn't have to be.Community Christmas provides a free online directory of local festive events and activities taking place across the UK, between 17 December 2022 and 1 January 2023, which are open to local older people who would otherwise be spending Christmas Day alone. 

AGE UK Calderdale & Kirklees’ Christmas Jumper Day 2022
We are delighted to announce that we are having a Christmas Jumper Day this year, to be held on Friday 16th November 2022.  We are asking for a £1 donation per person that takes part. The person with the best jumper will receive a confectionary hamper! So, send in pictures of yourselves* in your best Christmas Jumpers and YOU could be the lucky winner – we can’t wait to see what you choose! We will also promote every organisation that takes part through our social media.

 

Consultations 

Domestic and Sexual Abuse Perpetrator Intervention Survey

RedQuadrant have been commissioned by West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit to:

  •  map existing domestic and sexual abuse perpetrator interventions (adult and child) and
  • to identify appropriate domestic and sexual abuse perpetrator interventions that may be commissioned in future.The survey will remain open until 10th December and should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete. Access the survey here

Circular Economy Survey
Calderdale Council have been working with two students from Braford University to research into the benefits of a circular economy.  To help gain a better understanding of how the concept can help any organisation develop greener and inclusive working practices. Access the survey here

Enter the Neighbourhood Watch Cybercrime Survey
Neighbourhood Watch Network, with their Cyberhood Watch partner, Avast, have launched their annual Cybercrime Survey to understand the impact of cybercrime on communities across England and Wales today. The survey findings will help inform their work on addressing cybercrime.  

Final chance to have your say on proposed changes to local constituencies

The Boundary Commission for England (BCE) has now launched its third and final consultation on proposed changes to Parliamentary constituencies in England. A new map showing the potential changes to constituencies has now been published, allowing local people a final opportunity to have their say on proposals for their area. Significant changes have been made to the map since the last consultation, with the new proposals taking into account the feedback previously received. People can view and have their say on the latest proposals. The consultation will end on Monday 5 December. 

Your thoughts on our potential new centre: Todmorden Enterprise Centre
CVCLT are the sponsors of the proposed enterprise centre in Todmorden, and we hope to create affordable homes as part of the project.
You can help our research on potential tenants if you work in digital, creative, media or other modern jobs. We hope to attract these modern jobs to the enterprise centre and create opportunities for the valley's young people.

So, if you work from home and are attracted by a modern office space, if you have a business idea that could germinate in the enterprise centre, if you are part of a business that could base itself in the proposed enterprise centre then we are asking if you would complete this short questionnaire. WYCAS Finance Forum – Cutting Your Costs
Times are tough for all of us – need for your services is rising, income is getting harder to find, and setting budgets for 2023/24 is going to be a challenge for many organisations. We’d like to know what are the ways that your organisation is managing to reduce costs? We know that there is a wealth of knowledge out there among finance workers and treasurers, and at our Finance Forum on December 7th we’re looking for your tips, ideas and queries to share with others. If you work (paid or unpaid) in finance in the voluntary and community sector and would like to join the WYCAS virtual Finance Forum we’d be very pleased to welcome you. Our Finance Forums are usually held every few months and the topics are decided by you, (previous requests have been GiftAid, how to report to trustees, recruiting finance volunteers etc).This online session will be taking place on Wednesday 7th December from 1pm - 3pm. 

Business Support: Managing in Difficult Times webinars
With the impacts of the increase in cost of living being felt by everyone, this Acas webinar will look at what steps an employer can take to support their staff. We will provide practical advice and examples and offer delegates the chance to Q&A with advisers. Multiple dates available. 

An overview of Refugee and Migrant Finance: Contextualizing debt, credit, financial exclusion and its impact
A free online training for staff and volunteers who are interested in learning about refugee and migrant finance. The session will primarily focus on those with refugee status and asylum seeker status. It will give practitioners an insight into the formal/informal ongoing interactions that individuals have with the financial systems in settlement, home, transit, and 3rd Countries. Wednesday 7th December 11:00 – 12:30 (Online via Zoom) Register via Eventbrite 

CalderdaleCreates Influence & Reach

Networking Event for Calderdale Creatives. Join CalderdaleCreates at their December Christmas Party, a chance to network, promote your work and get festive with other creatives! What are the networks in Calderdale connecting with Culture? What can we learn from each other? Panel of speakers from Creativity & Health, Valley of Sanctuary, Calderdale Local Cultural Education Partnership, Hebden Bridge Open Studios,  the Grassroots music sector and the visitor economy. 

Calderdale Multi-Agency Safeguarding Adults and Children Learning and Improvement Programme - Download the full training schedule here
Calderdale Safeguarding Adults Board (CSAB) and Safeguarding Children Partnership (CSCP) offer a programme that supports all agencies with developing knowledge and skills for their teams and provides opportunities to build a strong multi-agency partnership. This programme has been compiled after giving consideration by the Joint Learning and Improvement Sub-group of a Multi-Agency Training Needs Analysis that took into account the previous programmes, current local and national learning reviews, local audits, new policies and procedures and legislation.

Calderdale Cost of Living Fund
Three organisations have come together to help Calderdale residents this Winter: West Yorkshire Combined Authority via The Mayor’s Cost of Living Emergency Fund, Calderdale Council and Community Foundation for Calderdale. 
£226,950 is being made available to voluntary and community organisations who can provide practical help and support to people affected by the current increase in the cost of living this Winter.The Calderdale Cost of Living Fund is focused on three main areas Emergency Support - £60,000 to help individuals at the time of crisis with direct support e.g. warm clothes Prevention - £90,000 to prevent people reaching crisis by providing communal warm spaces to reduce domestic energy use. Resilience – £76,950 to support people to move forward and away from crisis through local advice and support services. Application deadline at 10:00am on 10/12/22. Find out more here. 

Blue Spark: Funding for Children and Young People

Schools, community groups, clubs, societies or other organisations in England, are invited to apply for funds to improve the education and development of children and young people through educational, cultural, sporting and other activities. Funding for relatively small-scale projects which might not happen at all or would only happen on a lesser scale without the support of Blue Spark. 
Application reviewed on a rolling basis

West Yorkshire Prepared : Community Grant Initiative

The Community Grant Initiative provides communities across West Yorkshire with funding for projects, which help to boost emergency resilience and preparedness in the region.Whether for flood prevention and protection, essential communication devices or emergency response equipment, our aim is to enable more to be done at a local level before, during and after an emergency incident by providing small, one-off grants where communities need it most. Application deadline 31/12/22

The Steel Charitable Trust 
Charities, including CIOs, registered in any part of the United Kingdom can apply if their annual turnover is over £50,000. Areas of interest are:

  • Arts and Heritage
  • Education
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Social or Economic Disadvantage

The minimum grant size is £10,000. Awards of more than £25,000 are rare.

The Country & Land Association Charitable Trust 
The Country & Land Association Charitable Trust is currently inviting applications for funding. Applications will be accepted from small and medium-sized charities and not-for-profit organisations such as Community Interest Companies.

To be eligible, applicants must have a current safeguarding policy and must not have received a grant from CLACT in the previous three years. Applications are particularly welcomed for projects for children and young people, disadvantaged financially, physically, mentally, or from areas of deprivation.

Funding is at the discretion of the Trustees. The average grant awarded is in the region of £2,500.

Youth Justice Sport Fund
The Youth Justice Support Fund is a new grants programme backed by the Sport for Development Coalition which aims to meet the following two goals:

  • Support vulnerable young people, aged 10 to 17, at risk of involvement in crime, anti-social behaviour and serious violence through involvement in local sporting activities.
  • Through capacity building, increase the capability of sport sector delivery organisations to work effectively with their local criminal justice partners, including Youth Justice Services, Police and Police Crime Commissioners (PCC)/Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) structures.

Grants of £20,000 are on offer, though smaller and larger amounts may also be available depending on the project.

The Connect Fund - Barrow Cadbury Trust
Barrow Cadbury Trust has updated the funding strands available under its Connect Fund and is now requesting applications under the following strands:

  • Peer Networks to Support Market Building - creating a supportive network that allows enterprises to discuss and seek help with idea development or business planning.
  • Challenging Power with Participation - involving the communities affected by investment decisions in decision-making processes.

Applicants must be based in England and incorporated as a charity, social enterprise or have charitable objectives clearly incorporated into their articles of purpose with an appropriate asset/mission lock. Additionally, organisations must already be social investors of fund managers to be eligible to apply.

The Money Saving Expert Charity
A limited number of grants are available to not-for-profit organisations in the UK for projects that relate to the delivery of financial skills to different defined groups. Non-profit groups with constitution inc Registered Charity, CIC and Credit Unions are eligible to apply. Up to £7,500.

Invictus Wellbeing: Therapeutic Practitioner - Closing 9th December
We are looking for a therapeutic practitioner to lead on therapeutic interventions as part of our specialist mental health and wellbeing pathway through Liaison & Diversion & West Yorkshire Police. 

This pathway supports young people and children who have been through the criminal justice system (CJS), or are at risk of being involved with the CJS. Supporting victims, perpetrators and those at risk of crime with timely, effective and accessible therapeutic support is at the core of this role.  

Tod College : Assistant Centre Manager - Closing 13th December
Todmorden Learning Centre and Community Hub (TLCCH) is a charitable Community Benefit Society created to ‘Save Tod College’ from closure and the loss of an important community facility within the town. The organisation also has a focus on the urgent need to kick-start new sustainable industries which are essential to combat climate change, transition to a green economy and enable zero carbon culture. The successful candidate will be joining the College at the beginning of our major infrastructure improvements using the £1.8m grant from the Towns Deal - a time which is both exciting and challenging. 

 

WomenCentre: Counselling Triage Worker - Bradford Survive & Thrive - Closing 5th December

WomenCentre are recruiting a Triage Worker to join the Adult Counselling Service; the role is a first point of contact for referrals for either individual counselling or groupwork.

To apply you will need to have:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Administration experience and expertise.
  • A sound knowledge of relevant support services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of wider emotional health and wellbeing services

Healthy Minds: Project Worker Time Out - Closing 14th December
Time Out gives children & young people aged 5-19 creative opportunities to improve and maintain their emotional health and wellbeing.  This is about raising awareness of the value of emotional health, building resilience, and making it easier to access appropriate support when needed.  Find Out More Here

WomenCentre: Volunteer Coordinator Calderdale - Closing 10th January
Many teams are supported by volunteers in this work, and we are seeking to appoint a Volunteer Coordinator for Calderdale who will be the first point of contact for the Calderdale Volunteer team throughout the week. This, is a new post and will contribute to the positive experience of existing volunteers and will add value to the different ways that women and girls are supported by teams across the organisation by recruiting, inducting, supporting and developing new volunteers.
