Dear friends and family,
After several cancelled flights, a mad dash to Thrifty rental car and an 11 hr drive from Miami we are back in North GA! Our 3 week family mission trip to Honduras was an adventurous success! We loved getting to know the girls at Casa de Abby and spending time with our friends Michael and Karen. Their home for abused girls was full of love and laughter and we felt privileged to get to know them and share the love of Jesus. Tara, Caroline and Christopher spent most days at the home helping with worship, classes, cleaning and playing games. My prayer is that we can return and continue building relationships with the girls. We also got to visit briefly with our friends from HOI (Honduras Outreach Inc) and we spent a few days with our friend Lucas from Casa Blanca, a nursing home for the disabled. We provided them lunch and prayed over there facilities. We were very blessed as we are the first visitors they have had since the start of the covid pandemic!
As I have been reflecting on our trip I am reminded of a book I read by Lorren Cunningham called "Daring to Live on the Edge." In his book he talks about living with New Testament faith and he takes the words from the hymn "Trust and Obey" and reverses them...that we are to obey and trust. We are to hear God's voice and obey His word and then we are to trust that He will provide. It was a big decision Tara and I had to make to take our family on a mission trip to Honduras, especially during covid, the end of Tara's cancer treatment and the sudden death of Tara's brother-in-law the week before we left. But we believed we were hearing God's voice and we obeyed and trusted that He would provide...and He did! We had the finances to make the trip, we had negative covid tests coming and going, we shared our lives with the girls at Casa de Abby, we reconnected with HOI, we had a meal with the men and women at Casa Blanca and we got a rental car just in time to travel back from Miami. What a blessing it is to obey and trust.
We continue our mission work and we continue to obey and trust as God is providing for our ministries in Kenya and Nepal. Our missionaries in Kenya are still involved in their respective ministries. The YWAM base is currently having their DTS teams on outreach. Pastor John is ministering to the Pokot and is beginning to plant another church at the base of Mt Paka. Parasu and Shon are still running the rehab center in Kathmandu. They currently have 20 men in their program!
As a ministry we are still learning to obey and trust. As a family we are still learning to obey and trust. As an individual and the head of my household I am still learning to obey and trust...to obey and trust God in the great commission to GO and make disciples! I pray that as you read this you are learning to hear God's voice, obey and trust in Him also.
