Arts Upper Hunter Board AGM
Gail Bragg was returned as chairperson, James Hooke was returned as vice chair and Julie-Anne Ellem elected as treasurer. Thanks to outgoing treasurer Lyn Gowing. As a result of Kara Mitchell-Watson resigning, the board is looking for a community representative from the Upper Hunter Shire. Harmony Day
Arts Upper Hunter engaged belly dancer Sheri Court Kriesch (at front above photo) for Singleton Council's Harmony Day event and classical Indian dancer Arti Trasi (left) for the event held at Scone by Scone Neighbourhood Recourse Centre, Rotary Club of Scone, Upper Hunter Shire Libraries and the Community Relations Commission.

Aberdeen Quilt Affair. Sunday 19 April. 10 am - 3 pm. St Marks Church and Hall, Aberdeen RSL Club, Aberdeen Library and the Rose Garden.

Commemoration of the Centenary of Anzac Day and World War I around the region.

A number of art and cultural groups around the region are hosting special exhibitions and events to commemorate the Centenary of Anzac Day and World War 1.
 
April.  Scone and the First World War I. Scone Historical Museum has put together a series of story boards each focusing on a different aspect of the First World War: Gallipoli, Western Front, Palestine, Volunteers. Read more....
 

4 to 28 April. Centenary of Anzac Day Exhibition by the Dungog Arts Society. Read more....

17 April to 23 May. A Camera on Gallipoli. Singleton Library. The Australian War Memorial's digital exhibition, A Camera on Gallipoli, showcases a series of 39 candid  photographs taken by Sir Charles Ryan while serving with the AIF in Turkey in 1915. Read more....

24 April Scone Films presents the screening of "The Waler: Australia's Great War Horse". This film tells of the regiments of the Australian Light Horse in WW1.  Set in the Sinai and Palestine, culminating in the Charge at Beersheba, the ‘Great Ride’ through the Jordan Valley and the capture of Damascus. Some parts were filmed in the Upper Hunter and involved “local boy” Peter Haydon, who will be attending the screening and will share stories from The WalerRead more....

To celebrate the diversity of our local natural world Landcare UpHunter & Scone Landcare have launched their first Native Wildlife & Native Flora Photo Competition.

The Muswellbrook & Upper Hunter Eisteddfod divisions are being held between May and July. Entries close:
  • 2 April for: Instrumental, School Choirs & School Bands, Speech, Drama & Public Speaking
  • 1 May for: Piano
  • 8 May for: Dance
  • 10 July for: Creative Writing
