Online Centres Network News
Thursday 14 May 2020

Hello <<First Name>>

As many of our Online Centres have had to move their support online, we’ve recently decided to update our map to ensure the public has an up-to-date picture of the organisations providing support in their area. If you are still offering support to people in your community, we’d like to hear from you so that we can make sure you feature on the public-facing map. Let us know of any changes to how you are providing support by logging into Online Centres Network website and clicking on your centres and then selecting centre details

I also know how difficult a time it is financially for many of our centres. We’ve now added a COVID-19 grants tab to our UK funding database which includes lots of potential funding opportunities for your organisation. We’ve split opportunities so you can search by UK nation, to make it easier to find opportunities closer to home. You’ll find all the guidance needed to use this resource effectively on the first tab of the spreadsheet.

Finally, our resources page - updated regularly - is a great way to find the latest support for running your organisation online, helping your learners, managing your health and wellbeing and finding funding opportunities.

Best wishes

Zoom sessions: Virtual meet up for Online Centres
We’re pleased to announce we’re hosting more interactive Zoom sessions to give you the opportunity to meet one another and share your knowledge and expertise. From recent conversations it’s clear that you are thinking about how you can effectively deliver support remotely and how to operate a community focused business from home. Whether you have advice about a challenge or have something to share, this is a great opportunity to do so. Visit our website to find out more and express your interest in taking part.

Learn My Way - resources to help you to help others

Our Learn My Way website features a ‘help someone else’ tab which includes lots of additional resources tailored to help you to help someone else get the most of the internet. Our handy “communications checklists” outline the various ways your learners can keep in touch with family and friends virtually by using platforms such as email, Skype, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and FaceTime. These provide a step by step account to helping individuals connect with others online, which is now more important than ever.

Also included on the page are a series of learner guides which contain extra activities and ways to practise skills covered in a few of our most popular courses.
We know that supporting your learners to be vigilant online is an important skill when learning about online safety. That’s why we’ve also put together some of our top tips for staying safe online to help people ensure they are using secure devices whilst using the internet.
