I’m pleased to announce that our City and Guilds Online Basics accreditation, accessed through Learn My Way, is now available to all members of the Online Centres Network.

An opportunity for you to be able to provide accredited learning for the people you support, as well as being a great addition for their CV. The assessment is an Entry level 3 Online Basics IT Qualification and is part of the City and Guilds Start IT qualification.

The uptake and interest from centres has been really strong and so, due to budget restrictions, we have made the decision to re-introduce a fee for assessment codes.

From Monday 1 July 2019 the first 10 assessment voucher codes for every centre will be free of charge. If you’d like more than 10 voucher codes, they will be charged at £12 per code, but we may be able to reduce this slightly for bulk purchases.

All centres who delivered between 1 April - 30 June 2019 will receive 10 free assessment codes in July 2019.

Spotlight on: Being Woman

We’d like to say congratulations to Being Woman - our Centre of the Month for June. Centre Manager, Fareeha Usman set up this centre after realising that the community where she lives in Northumberland offers no English classes for refugees and that there was nowhere for people to learn digital skills.

After establishing that there was an appetite for classes within the local community, especially from refugees and elderly people, Fareeha approached the local YMCA, and is now using it as a base to deliver classes and support people using Learn My Way.

HOW CAN WE EMBED DIGITAL INCLUSION INTO (PRE-ENTRY) ESOL SUPPORT?

We’re working with Carnegie UK Trust to understand how we can embed digital inclusion into pre-entry ESOL support. If you are working in this field, join us on Tuesday 16 July. We’d like you to help us understand how we can address low literacy and low digital skills among socially excluded adults.

Course updates: Universal Credit a how to guide

To help support your learners with their Universal Credit claims, our learning team has been updating the Universal Credit how-to guide on Learn My Way, in line with policy and system changes.

So what’s different?

• Citizens Advice now has a helpline that anyone can use to get support with Universal Credit applications - the number is 0344 4111 444.

• We’ve also added scenarios to help your learners think about whether applying for Universal Credit online is right for them.

• DWP is also making regular updates to the Universal Credit system and would like to get ongoing feedback on errors. So we’ve also added information about how to report an error on the Universal Credit system.
