Online Centres Network News
Thursday 20 February 2020

Hello <<First Name>>

I'm pleased to announce that our Future Digital Inclusion programme funded by the Department for Education has been shortlisted for a Digital Agenda Impact Award in the Employment and Skills category. Since 2014, the Online Centres Network has supported more than 1.4 million people to learn digital skills through the programme, making significant progress towards closing the digital skills gap in the UK.

The success of the programme wouldn't be possible without the work you do in your centres and I can't thank you enough for the very real difference you are making to people's lives.

Help us to shout about the amazing work you do at your organisation by voting for the programme in the People's Choice vote and take a look at the other inspiring initiatives nominated.

Voting closes at 12pm on Friday 28 February.

Best wishes
Helen Milner OBE

There are just under two weeks to go until our Supporting Digital Inclusion Together network event! In collaboration with Digital Communities Wales we’re discussing how we can work with Welsh community organisations to support digital inclusion. Our event is open to organisations that are already part of the network and those who want to find out more about what we can offer. It’s free to attend, all that we ask is that you book your place.

Good Things Foundation is working with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to support the delivery of the next Census in England and Wales. In 2021, the Census will be ‘digital first’ - and we will provide support to ensure those without digital skills or digital access can participate.
We’re looking for organisations who can support people who are digitally and socially excluded and wish to complete the Census online between March and May 2021. You’ll be required to deliver the service across a set amount of hours each week with the possibility of additional delivery covering evenings, weekends and the census weekend.
From Monday 24 February, we’re inviting all organisations who are interested to submit an expression of interest by Friday 27 March at 5pm. We will then ask successful organisations to complete a fuller application form in May, and successful applicants will be informed by the end of June. Although delivery does not begin until March 2021, on boarding for successful applicants will begin in August 2020.
More information about this opportunity will be available
here from Monday 24 February.

Locality programme to strengthen London community organisations

Locality, the national membership network supporting local community organisations, is working with partners over the next three years to shine a light on the contributions community organisations make to creating a fairer London where every community thrives.

Locality will be providing opportunities for training, new resources and toolkits, and bridging connections with other community organisations, policy-makers and partners through network events.

London Community Spotlight, a free information and training event takes place on 17 March at Cambridge House, Southwark. Locality are also offering a free guided session with Lighthouse, an online diagnostic tool for assessing the current health of your organisation across 6 key areas and alerting you to areas which need attention. Book your free face-to-face, email, or phone guided session with the tool –email Charlotte Stannard on

We’ve had quite a few updates to Learn My Way over the past few weeks. We're pleased to say our video calling course has been updated due to feedback we’ve received from you! We really value feedback from your learners so do not hesitate to get in touch with us to let us know of any ideas that you might have. We’ve also added some new session plans to the More internet skills and Online safety subjects to enable tutors to plan their sessions on these courses.

Did you know? If you deliver
Learn My Way courses as a Tutor, you can ask your centre manager to give you Tutor access, enabling you to view session plans resources and access to learner management information. Did you know that we also have a tutors newsletter that we send out every month highlighting key industry news, useful resources and Learn My Way updates? If you don’t already receive these, you can sign-up by visiting the website

Since 2015, Good Things Foundation has been working with Homeless Link to explore how digital support is offered in the Homelessness sector. The Reboot UK project includes a variety of aspects including peer mentoring and a range of ways to help people gain digital skills support through Learn My Way.
Regional workshops will take place in Sheffield, Bristol and London in March to help staff and volunteers explore more about digital support and to inform them about the Reboot project. For more information visit the website
